Assembly Minutes for June 12, 2003

778th meeting of Assembly 30.

Gene Hendrix called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Thanks to everyone for braving the stormy weather to attend.

Members present: Gene Hendrix, Keith Rainey, Bob Stultz, John Miller, Gordon Astley, JC Doty, Joe M. Turner, Jim Mangham, Mark Hatfield. Visitors were Ernie Becker, Mike Yakubek, and Mary Doty.

Prior to the meeting commencement, Joe Turner spoke on his experiences at the IBM Convention last week.

Carol and Dan Garrett and Rick Hinze are all in attendance atthe SAM National Convention in Las Vegas. Last month's minutes are still under the care of Carol Garrett and were unavailable to be read.

Treasurer's report: No money spent.

Old business: Gene Hendrix received an email from Bradley Jacobs regarding the 2004 Spring National Council Meeting to be held in Atlanta. Tentative dates are March 19-20, 2004, or March 26,-27, 2004. Mr. Jacobs said that we could likely expect 15-20 people to come in from out of town for the meeting. Gene said that we have yet to decide on who will be performing for this event. Rick Hinze is expected to speak with Mr. Jacobs for further details during the convention this week.

New business: The question was raised wondering why our Assembly reports are published in the MUM as inconsistenly as they are. No conclusion was reached. We await reports from our representatives at the National Convention. There was some discussion of adding historical information/pictures related to Assembly 30 on the website. Joe Turner said he would be happy to scan pictures to use for the site. Gordon Astley stated that he, too, would be happy to scan, as he had just purchased a new scanner.

We welcomed visitor Mike Yakubek, an SAM member from the Miami area in the 1970's. Mike's interest in magic was rekindled with the opening of Jeff Wasley's Kennesaw Magic Shop. He had performed previously in the bar/lounge settings. He is particularly fond of rope, coins, and matches.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:20 p.m.

Carol Garrett, Assembly Secretary
