March 27, 2004 SAM National Council Meeting Dinner and Show On March 27, 2004, the Atlanta Society of Magicians (SAM Assembly 30) hosted the SAM National Council for a reception, dinner, and show following their meetings in Atlanta earlier in the week. The event, organized and produced by Rick Hinze and directed by John Miller, was a grand success. Close-up magic was performed at each table prior to dinner. Performers included Dale Adamson, J.C. Doty, Patrick Floyd, Dan Garrett, Gene Hendrix, Rick Hinze, John Miller, Charles Pecor, K.C. Roberts, Paul Sponaugle, Joe M. Turner, and Fred Ulrich. Many members of the SAM National Coucil also performed, including Tom Gentile, David Goodsell, Gary Hughes, and Brad Jacobs. After a delicious dinner, the attendees enjoyed a stage show. At the beginning of the show, Gary Hughes and the attendees recognized George Schindler's birthday. Mr. Schindler was presented with a cake which he jokingly began to throw in Mr. Hughes' face. The show proper began soon afterward, featuring Dale Adamson as the Master of Ceremonies. Dale was interrupted by Joe M. Turner with word of a special delivery to the hotel. Dale and Joe opened the seemingly empty trunk and National President Jay Gorham magically emerged. President Gorham presented citations to J.C. Doty, Rick Hinze, Carol Garrett and Dan Garrett. He also presented the first act of the evening. Andy Dallas followed with a manipulative stage version of the ball and vase. Charles Pecor (as "Picard") mesmerized the audience with feats of mentalism. Dan Garrett supplied his usual high-standard magical performance, blending comedy and mystery. Rick Hinze presented a clever and funny comedy "Dove" act that had everyone laughing. Finally, Joe M. Turner presented a stand-up sleight-of-hand act using coins and silks, a ball and a placard, playing cards, and ropes. The appreciative crowd congratulated each performer and rewarded them with a warm ovation at the conclusion of the program.
